Reality shows in France |
Last year, a new concept appeared on French T.V. from
the States: reality shows. The first broadcast was a real success: “Loft
Story”. Five girls and six boys were shut up for two months in a house and
they were filmed. Everyone watched this programme because it was a new one and
people were curious.
After
this first reality show, a lot of others were broadcast.
In “Star Academy” fourteen boys and girls had to
live in a castle, had different types of music lessons so that after many
tests, one of them could become a
singer and earn a lot of
money. That was also very successful.
“Koh-Lanta”
(in U.S. “Survivor”) another reality show where two groups of people are on
an island must survive for two months with what they find; in the end, one of
them wins and gets a money prize. But people were not very interested in this
concept.
Last
summer “Operation seduction” appeared, where twenty boys were on a boat for
around a month to seduce four girls and in the end (after the women had
eliminated all the others), the girls elected a boy who became the seducer of
the summer.
Another
and last (for the moment) concept was broadcast this summer, called
“Temptation Island”. Four couples come on an island to test their couple, to
know if they really love each other and they are separated – a place for girls
and another for boys. Then in those places, single boys and girls are here to
seduce them; in the end, the couples decide to stay or not together.
All
of these concepts came from the United States where they were shown for a couple
of years and invaded the world few years later like all the U.S. phenomena
Some of
these broadcasts are totally silly. In France, they interest from the younger to
the elder people who often watch T.V. In France, it is a fashionable phenomenon
and like every fashionable phenomenon , it will go out of fashion.
