The Mont Saint-Michel
I want to talk to you about this beautiful French monument.
First of all, you should know what is the Mont Saint-Michel , so let me describe it.
The Mont Saint-Michel is situated on the northwestem French coast, near Saint-Malo.
This island, which is quite little, is a big cone-shaped rock. It is connected by a causeway
with mainland, so don't care about a boat! Not only do we come across small houses
(the population is about 72) but we also come across shops which sell typical French
specialities. These buildings stand for the lower part of the Mont Saint-Michel, as far as
the upper part is concerried, there is the Benedictine abbey, whom the Mont Saint-Michel is celebrated for. Above these stand the monastic buildings, which date from the 13 th century and epitomize the Gothic architecture. The greatest part of this monument is the abbey
church, which is about 73 meters above the sea level.
This monument is a symbol for France insofar as on the one hand it represents the naturel beauty of France
(the northwestem coast has very nice landscapes) and on the other hand, it represents the architectural beauty of France owing to the Gothic architecture and the beautiful church we come across at the top. It also epitomizes the French strength in as much as it resisted to the English during the 100 years
war, French have resisted to many things since then. Another important thing is the fact that it was used as a political prison during the French Revolution in 1789, like the Bastille, and
nowadays, it stands for liberty. That is why
it is considered as a French historical monument.
As a conclusion, I want to say that I personnally like the Mont Sain-Michel ans I have already been to this magical and fantastic place. I really think it is one of the best French monuments and
if you go there, you will understand why I have chosen this monument especially ! !
