Akseli Gallen-Kallela was born in 1865 in Ruovesi and died in 1931. He seached for inspiration for his national subjects everywhere. He entred many international exhibitions, and was succesful. And he really deserved his succes. He is one of the most famous painters in Finland.

Akseli Gallen-Kallela has painted this painting in 1892. This painting describes Finnish nature, with a lake, forest and a mountain of Lapland. The boy in the picture looked like a typical shepherd boy.
